So this is a truncated version of what we got up to on the second and final day of our stay in HV (after wading through a million kangaroo photos this is what I came up with...). We started the day with a massive continental breakfast at The Mill restaurant, then proceeded to go on a wine-tasting tour.

After visiting about 5-6 boutique wineries with a small group of people and tasting some 50 wines we steadily became more and more disoriented; partly from steadily consuming so much alcohol (they were very generous with their tastings ok) and mostly from trying so many that they all started to taste the same. Eventually conversations at the tasting tables went like this:

Man (after tasting a $150 bottle): Marvelous. Absolutely marvelous! The flavours...oh my...this is the best I've tasted!
Man's Wife: Yes this is a standout! What a beautiful wine!
R (to me): I don't like this one...
Me: Yeah...it tastes like the first one we tried...but worse...

But of course we nodded enthusiastically anyway. Still, we picked out a few of our favourites and bought several bottles to take home. I have to say I'm in love with the whole area; all the wineries had distinct personalities and rich histories behind them and everywhere you look you could see rolling green hills with rows and rows of vines.

After a bit more loitering at a cheese factory we went back to our hotel and did our daily stalking of the kangaroos outside our room. I'm not kidding, there were families of kangaroos grazing within metres from our doorstep. So naturally we tried to venture as close as we could to them without getting punched/kicked/scratched in the face by one (one of R's traumatic childhood experiences apparently).

The last thing I remember from that night was driving in pitch darkness looking for a place to eat. We must've listened to Mylo Xyloto on full blast 20 times over the whole trip.

Then we woke up early the next day, signed out and kept driving.

  5. I've never been on a wine tasting tour, but you make it look pretty awesome. I would probably get mad schwasty though... if you know what I mean. Every time I see your photos, I feel like they should all be in some fancy gallery or magazine. God, wish I had your photography skillz.

  7. These photos are so lovely, as always! I am not so much of a wine drinker but the boy friend bought me an apple cider, when I won the bet when he challenged me into something. I like the taste of it. I was watching Under The Tuscan Sun and A Walk in the Clouds last weekend, and you're like living my dreams. Wish we have something like this in my country.
