Grey and rainy today. It's left me cooped up in my house contemplating how mid-sem break has disintegrated into dust so quickly. Funny how I am rendered a complete hermit at the first sign of cold wet weather...but I think R will be coming over for lunch (yeah, lunch at 3 haha) and possibly dinner later with medsci friends @Outback Steakhouse, so not all bad!

On a completely unrelated note, I have finally conquered Blogger's pesky margins/padding between all the images! Meddling around with css and html in the template is so frustrating but after all the tweaking I think i'm finally happy with current layout :)

ANYWAY, hope it's sunnier for everyone else? Peace!

Today was the last day of the Easter Show (a big tradition/event here), and considering the last time R and I went we were too young to fully appreciate the complete rip-off that is ticket/rides prices, naturally we went. Perhaps it may be that our maturity levels are around the same but...it was funnnn.

Pretty fun. Above was the day. All the blingy lights, greasy food, obnoxious music and screaming people must have brought out the child within...

Highlights: the Hollywood House of Horrors and hearing R scream like a girl (I, too, shat my pants), 9pm fireworks, trying multiple times to win a gigantic soft toy but ending up with a tiny little plush lion and walking the entire showground many times over.

I took a load of photos of the various animals on exhibit (among other randoms), but didn't want to make it seem like all we did was look at chickens. However I shall show you them soon!

Campus + Cake

Probably my favourite place on campus-a weird mix of vine covered walls, random roman pillars which serve no purpose whatsoever and shady ...

Probably my favourite place on campus-a weird mix of vine covered walls, random roman pillars which serve no purpose whatsoever and shady sloping lawns. It's a cool place to have lunch because it's peaceful and overlooks the oval, giving this impression of wide natural grassiness.

If, you know, you ignore the construction site and giant maccas sign on the other side.

Today was a medsci friend's birthday, so we surprised her with a birthday cake and candles at the pillars. I took a picture of the cake + bday girl but it did not do it (and her) justice. Apparently my phone cam can't handle closeups.

But it was a nice little gathering, we ended up throwing bits of cake at each other- it was a much-needed break from studying for the exam tomorrow. But hey, one more day and I am a free woman!

Anyway, I left uni late again today- spent the whole day in the library. That will change very very soon!

Various places around Wynyard

Public transport here is pretty bad...and probably worse on weekends. After getting into the city at around 7:40am (I know right, who gets up at this time), I waited for a bus. And waited. And eventually I figured it was best I walk around to kill some time and prevent my feet from snapping off in the cold.

But there is something quite lovely about a deserted city just waking up on a weekend. Quite convenient too, since no-one was around to watch me take pictures on my phone like a fobby tourist...

Naturally the rest of the day was spent being pleasantly unproductive. As in I slept all day. Hope your weekends were just as lovely!

This week I survived disappointing exams, losing my new earphones, doing an assignment twice, losing my keycard and getting my debit card eaten by an ATM.

But yesterday I picked up a pair of heels at sheriton shoes. They're in my exact size (rare occurrence) and best of all, they were on sale for $20! So it kind of made up for the crappy week.

I have a couple of new shoes I haven't even worn yet so I don't really NEED them (as R brutally pointed out). But I figured I don't have any satin shoes (except for a pair I loathe) AND slingbacks are so comfy.

I am justified, somewhat.

My 4 day hiatus from the online world is due- in part- to the fact that my attention has been diverted....to attempting to save my ass from the ravages of upcoming midsession exams. (Yes sometimes it studies.)

And also there is really nothing particularly remarkable to blog about. Though it may interest you to know that my big toenail pretty much got completely ripped off- thanks a certain boy in my life, and to the fact that I decided to wear thongs on a whim. Anyway, the post about nothing is too long. I leave here with one of the many videos I watched today which um "supplements my education".

Halfway through a lecture of tidal wave proportions, in a room full of 400 other confused humans trying to stay afloat, I get a message. It is from my mom.

The lecture continues and more waves are flung, of too much information in not enough time, of words and "simple" diagrams which make everyone groan collectively. I wonder distantly if 3GP, 3PG, PGA, GADP, PGAL are the same, if they are all the same or some of them are the same, or if none of them are the same, or if they are the same but not really.

At home:

Mom: Did you get my message?!
Me: Yes
Mom: Why didn't you reply?
Me: You messaged me in the middle of a lecture!
Mom: So? You can message during class can't you?
Me: Mom!
Mom: Well why do you think I bothered to text you instead of calling!

And then I remembered the countless minutes of her poring over the keypad of a new mobile, wondering why she could not type fast enough to reply to her daughter's messages. Mothers are amazing.

Waking up to the moment when the sun starts to rise and shares the sky with the moon is pretty amazing. Found this- taken awhile ago and it reminds me of that whooosh feeling of when you finally realise why you endured 40km of hiking, a bed of stones and luke-warm soup. To stand on top of a mountain and watch everything come alive.

In such an odd mood! I guess I had another whoosh moment today, when R sat on his own (open) box of pasta during our lunch break. For some unexplainable reason cleaning the squished pasta off his jeans whilst choking on my own laughter made me realise how much he means to me. Cue saccharine trilling violins. True, though!

"Camp"

Camp was surprisingly pleasant! The drive down was especially memorable; hurtling down tight country lanes in almost complete darkness, wind...

Camp was surprisingly pleasant! The drive down was especially memorable; hurtling down tight country lanes in almost complete darkness, windows rolled down with Radiohead and Angus & Julia Stone blaring. Plus with the Milky Way and headlights as the only source of light, it was kind of eerie in a very nostalgic way...

The rest of the days were spent playing barefoot soccer, having a hysterical canoe race/fight/capsizing, stumbling around by the water at midnight, playing cards, napping in the sun. Kung-fu pictures in the middle of a field, drinking wine out of plastic cups and disjointed mumbling conversations at 4am. Making friends.

This is pretty much the only picture I took, not even a good one but at least I can say I'm glad I ended up going. Back to studying now...
